Training the Trainers with Gateway Outdoors...

April ended in sunshine, and this provided a great environment for the new staff of an activity centre keen to develop their paddling and recue skills. The BCU 2 Star Award is generic across craft, and the BCU state that "successful performance at this level indicates that the paddler can use fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water to control movement of both canoes and kayaks, and have an understanding of how the paddle, boat, and water interact." On top of this, Matt Craig from Gateway Outdoors and myself also delivered the FSRT Course, which is also designed for all paddlers irrespective of craft. The objective is to teach simple and safe skills that can be applied appropriately. Oh, and to have some fun in the sun...
Walking on water. Well, one of them can...
No paddle required. Rescuing an unconscious paddler...
To me, to you - recovering swamped boats...
Sea-saw - draining the sea kayak...
Keeping safe and keeping going - no portage required...
Synchronised capsizing...
Now what do we do?? All-in rescue...
Finish with a smile...
