On the Usk with Nick and Steve...

According to Canoe Wales, the Usk is, along with the Wye, one of the most popular rivers in South Wales. It has sections to please most paddlers, from bouncy upper rapids and beautiful lower touring stretches. It descends from the northern foothills of the Black Mountains range. Interestingly enough, when full to the brim, it normally shows a wild, red colour derived from the sandstone beds over which its numerous tributaries flow. This week the water was not quite that high, but the Winter sunshine made up for it...
